I AM THAT I AM

 I AM THAT I AM

“And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? What shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” Exodus 3:13-14. Moses is being sent to deliver the children of Israel from the bondage of Egypt. Moses is to tell the children of Israel that I AM has sent me to you. God is telling Moses that he is a perfect and independent existence. God alone is supreme in the universe. God stands above and beyond anything and everything. His voice is to be heard because of his eternal and unchanging nature. God is all in all. This truth is expressed in the identity which Jesus gave to John in writing the Revelation when he said, “Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come.” Revelation 1:4 “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8. All power resides with God. God was before time began, and will be when time concludes. God is the creator of time and all of creation. He is the omnipotent and all powerful God.  Moses was to inform the captives of Egypt that the God known to their fathers was the same God that now they must know. His nature had not changed, nor would he ever change. As their fathers had known and trusted God, so now they must know and trust him. God is the magnificent one unto whom all glory and praise belong. God is the governor and controller of the universe. After Nebuchadnezzar had eaten the grass as an animal and his hairs had “grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws,” he “blessed the most High, and praised and honored him that liveth forever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation. And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?” Daniel 4:33-35.
