By Mine Own Hand

"And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saving mine own hand hath saved me."  Judges 7:2.  God instructs Gideon as to how the number of Israelites fighting would be reduced.  The Israelites were to understand that God was the One who delivered victory.  God desired to maintain the dependence of Israel upon Him.  Once they believed that they were delivered by their own hand, their faith would waver.  They would begin to trust in themselves.  They would see themselves as the victors.  God enables His people to fight battles.  God is the source of power and victory.  Can our own hand deliver us from the devil?  Can our own hand redeem the soul?  Can our own hand move the mountains of sin and crush the enemy?  We, as God's people, are not to believe that by our own resources comes success.  We are to know that our own hand can not save us.  We are the instruments by which God achieves.  We, in the hand of God and by the power of God, know triumph.  Without God, failure.
