The Mouth of the Lord

Zedekiah was 21 years of age when he began to reign in Jerusalem.  Concerning this reign, scripture says that "he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the Lord."  II Chronicles 36:11-12.  Jeremiah was a called prophet of Jehovah.  God told the young man that "whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak."  Jeremiah 1:7.  The evil of Zedekiah prohibited him from listening to the word of the Lord.  Pride would not allow him to listen to the wise counsel of Jehovah.  The prophet Jeremiah was not the one that was speaking and the message given by him was not his message.  Jeremiah spoke what God instructed him to speak.  Sound advice can be given and words of wisdom can be spoken.  But, the only authority for spiritual well being and a sound relationship with God is to listen to the "mouth of the Lord."  In our day, many prophets speak.  The question that one must ask is, "Do they speak from the mouth of the Lord?"  The voice of the prophet must be proven.  Every word must be tested.  God's word teaches us to put away evil and humble ourselves before Him.  The word of the Lord is right and true.  His word is to be without compromise.  His word is to be heard and obeyed.  Right living and humility will follow.
